about

This is a co-release with Shika Shika and the vinyl version is available at shikashika.bandcamp.com

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This project unites artists from two labels, China-based bié Records and Latin America-based Shika Shika, separated by very contrasting cultures and thousands of kilometers but united by shared values and a shared musical vision.

Driven by values of creativity, borderless music and fairness for artists, both labels showcase artists that unite electronica with ambient and folk music, purposefully existing outside of the globalized, copy-paste of the mainstream music industry.

A mix of intrigue and mutual respect led to the birth of this compilation, with the two labels teaming up to match together a group of their artists to remix each other. The result is a widely imaginative, fresh and diverse selection of tracks featuring some of the prominent producers such as DaYe, Lim Giong; Hualun, Sun Dawei and Rainsoft from bié Records and DJ Raff, Terror:Cactus, Numa Gama, Barrio Lindo and El Búho from Shika Shika.

The compilation is a testament to music's power to transcend language and cultural background as artists from hugely different contexts unite to explore and build on each other's creative visions.

About bié Records - bierecords.bandcamp.com
As we are still figuring out what it means to be a ‘listener’ in the global context today, the ambition of bié Records as a label is not to document the turbulences of times, but to provide musicians with equal opportunities to speak out and impetus to thoroughly express themselves. Our hope is that the natural state of music – fun and spirituality – will break free from the ‘golden rules’ of the much-developed industrial standards.

DaYe - daye3.bandcamp.com
DaYe is not a social type, and because she often feels the indifference imposed by the system on people, she seeks out outlets for her emotions through music.

Hualun - hualun.bandcamp.com
Emerged from the early days of the Wuhan punk rock scene, Hualun made a name in the nationwide post-rock boom. The group has, since day one of its formation, made every endeavor to be diverse during music exploration, forging the tiniest vibrations and sentiment into instrumental compositions. The result of such intuitive musical experimentation, which can be showcased in their recent OST works and other free-form impromptu compilations, is always shape-shifting, yet immersive and infectious. Hualun is a group of true pioneers who keep evolving along their long, solid, and respectful careers.

Lim Giong - limgiong.bandcamp.com
Lim Giong is one of Taiwan's most famous singer-songwriters in the 90s; a household name for his consistent film scores for the world-acclaimed directors Hou Hsiao-hsien and Jia Zhang-ke; and a leading figure in the local techno and experimental electronic scenes.

Rainsoft - rainsoft-music.bandcamp.com
Rainsoft has a clear perception of what she wants to achieve with her music. Not bound by the use of lyricism for expression, she adopts the space and atmosphere hidden between the rhythm grids of techno music, pursuing a sense of infinity between the beginning and development of her potent and evergoing music momentum.

Sun Dawei - sundawei.bandcamp.com
Sun Dawei is a forerunner in the field of electronic music in China.
While Sun was playing in the legendary punk outfit "Underground Baby", he started working on the arrangement of their works and gradually became interested in experimenting with computers and software to soundtrack fashion shows, films, and theatre plays. In 2003, he adopted the moniker "Sulumi" and put out his first experimental electronic work Air Inhibition Of Water, which shed light on how to creatively express one's feelings using the 0's and 1's of the computer language for all his peers.

Throughout his long and genre-shifting career, Sun has used many monikers to create different types of electronic music that bear the same DIY spirit, global perspective, and sense of modernity. Some of the minimalist, ambient and techno releases published under his self-run label "Shanshui Records", which served as a solitary base for him and other like-minded pioneers of electronic music in China, are still deemed to be classics today.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About Shika Shika - shikashika.bandcamp.com
Shika Shika seeks to create an inclusive, global movement that empowers artists, celebrates cultural migrations and embraces the power of music and art to drive change. We believe in the power of borderless culture, strong community and creative collaboration to bring about lasting change.

Barrio Lindo - barriolindo.bandcamp.com
Agustín Rivaldo is Barrio Lindo, luthier, musician & producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since 2012, he has composed sonorities & songs that cross through electronic music, downtempo and South American popular music, inspired by folklore & the sound of Latin American streets.

Since his beginning, Barrio Lindo has released his music on European labels, from where he quickly established his name as one of the emerging Latin electronic new wave.

In parallel to his solo career, Barrio Lindo keeps a permanent collaboration with British producer El Búho under the name History of Colour, who, since 2015, also co-manages SHIKA SHIKA, a label/platform dedicated to connecting a global audience with slow organic music lovers. Making from this label a platform that joins music & activism, with the goal of creating a new music industry with more equity for artists and audiences.

DJ Raff - djraff.bandcamp.com
London-based Chilean DJ and producer DJ Raff crafts lysergic, low-slung dance music, lacing together samples from across the Afro-Latin diaspora into a heady mix of percussive patterns and hypnotic melodies. With support from Gilles Peterson and Tom Ravenscroft among others, DJ Raff has established himself as one of the most prolific producers on the scene. He describes himself as a relator - or sonic storyteller - speaking in a “musical language” of kaleidoscopic rhythms and atmospheric instrumental moods that draw on myriad influences from the Andean regions of Chile, Peru, Bolivia and beyond.

El Búho - elbuho.bandcamp.com
El Búho aka Robin Perkins was born in the rolling hills of northern England but found his musical home in the forests of Latin America. His music blends together the rhythms, mythologies and melodies of his adopted continent with the sound of waterfalls, birdsongs, crackling leaves and a modern electronic aesthetic. The result is a dreamy, deep, melodic journey that entrances as much through headphones as it does on the dancefloor.

Numa Gama - numagama.bandcamp.com
One may say that Numa Gama music is defined by obsessive sound design, steady electronic beats, and layers of their own voice. Bandcamp Daily has once described her songs as "lithe club tracks that drip with an alluring mischievousness." There is a chance, though, it didn't sound like that to someone who has seen her live.

Numa Gama's performance has proven to be quite unpredictable as she has built an extensive history of shows & DJ sets in 19 countries around the globe and put out a mutant catalog of Vinyls, EPs & a Cassette. Over the last seven years, this mutability and variety have been present in the work of the Brazilian artist whose moniker stands for "in a range" in Portuguese.

Terror/Cactus - terrorcactus.bandcamp.com
Terror/Cactus is the digital folklore and psychedelic electro-cumbia project of Martín Selasco. Born in Buenos Aires and raised in Miami, the Seattle-based producer draws from a wide variety of Latin-American influences in his productions including Argentine folk, Peruvian chicha, and Colombian cumbia. These influences are woven into hypnotic electronic beats featuring psychedelic guitars, dub lasers, and field recordings.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
